Step into the role of a historian! Preserve Your Past invites you to engage with the art of historical thinking, discover how history is written, and find your personal place within it. This program begins with a one-hour lecture exploring why historical research matters and the challenges historians often face. Participants will learn about key historical methods, including who has written history over time, the role of biography and autobiography, and how historical narratives have evolved. The lecture will also ask participants to reflect on where they fit into history. Examples from amateur and community historians will highlight the diversity of historical perspectives, and participants will be introduced to resources that can help them further explore the field. Those who wish can also submit their written work to be included in the museum’s archive. Following the lecture, there will be a 15-minute question-and-answer session, offering participants an opportunity to engage with experts and ask questions. Afterward, the program will shift into a 30- to 45-minute guided writing session. During this time, participants will craft personal historical statements, with examples and guidance provided. Join us for an engaging afternoon of discovery and creativity as we preserve the past and write new stories for the future! All ages are welcome. $10 (Resident)/$12 (Non-Resident).
